Two men arrested in Phoenix after a shootout during a fentanyl bust face federal charges for conspiracy to distribute the drug.
Two men, Eduardo Valenzuela Lopez, 33, of Mexico, and Jael Gonzalez Banuelos, 22, of Phoenix, were arrested on February 24, 2026, in west Phoenix after a shootout with DEA agents during a drug bust involving about 50,000 fentanyl pills.
Lopez allegedly opened fire, but no one was injured.
Authorities recovered a firearm and the pills from the vehicle.
Both face federal charges for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, which carries a minimum 10-year sentence and up to life in prison if convicted.
They appeared in court on Wednesday.
The case is part of broader federal efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking.
