The Supreme Court Collegium plans early transfers for upcoming chief justices to ease court leadership transitions, pending government approval.
The Supreme Court Collegium has introduced a new policy to ensure smoother leadership transitions in High Courts by transferring judges designated as future Chief Justices to their new courts at least two months before their appointment.
This allows incoming chief justices to familiarize themselves with court operations, reducing administrative disruptions.
The policy was announced after a February 26, 2026, meeting, with Justice Lisa Gill recommended for transfer to the Andhra Pradesh High Court and Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari for the Madras High Court.
The recommendations now await government approval.
