Starting March 1, 2026, British Columbia residents will receive free access to diabetes and menopausal hormone therapies through a new national PharmaCare program funded by $670 million in federal support.
The initiative covers insulin and other diabetes treatments, as well as hormone therapy for menopause, benefiting over 500,000 people with diabetes and 160,000 with menopausal symptoms.
Coverage is automatic for those enrolled in B.C.’s Medical Service Plan, with no additional registration required.
Medications like Ozempic are excluded, though officials hope they may be added later.
The move eliminates significant out-of-pocket costs, including up to $18,300 annually for some treatments, marking a major step toward equitable access to essential drugs.
