St. Louis man sentenced to 87 months for defrauding Kohl’s of $300K via loophole in cash program.
Marshall Lampkin, 36, of St. Louis, was sentenced to 87 months in prison and ordered to pay $301,713 in restitution for a years-long scheme that defrauded Kohl’s of over $300,000.
He exploited a timing loophole in the Kohl’s Cash program by using the cash to buy items in-store, immediately ordering the same items online before transactions posted, then returning the in-store purchases for more Kohl’s Cash.
He repeated the cycle hundreds of times across multiple states, storing or selling stolen goods like furniture and appliances through Facebook Marketplace.
Despite warnings and account deactivation, he continued with accomplices.
The fraud was part of a decades-long pattern of criminal activity dating back to 2007, including illegal ticket sales, shoplifting, and abuse of a pharmacy rewards program, during which he allegedly became violent when confronted.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and St. Louis County Police and prosecuted by federal attorneys.
