The Ravi Shankar Centre denies Rishab Sharma’s claim of being a formal disciple, stating no ceremony occurred and training was minimal.
The Ravi Shankar Centre has refuted sitarist Rishab Rikhiram Sharma’s claim of being a formal disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, stating no Ganda Bandhan ceremony occurred in 2012 and that only a few informal lessons were given.
The Centre emphasized that true discipleship requires years of rigorous training, not brief interactions or public introductions.
It clarified that Shankar never referred to Sharma as a disciple, and no formal mentorship continued after March 2012.
Photos and claims of later meetings were debunked, with evidence showing Shankar was critically ill and in San Diego in November 2012.
The Centre also noted that Sharma’s association with the tradition was limited, and the title of youngest or last disciple belongs to others.
