Manitoba’s PC Party broke election laws by using a free legislative room for partisan events, must repay its value.
Manitoba’s elections commissioner found the Progressive Conservative party violated election laws in 2023 by using a free room in the legislative building for a partisan event that included campaign speeches and recruitment efforts.
Although the event was presented as non-partisan student engagement, the commissioner ruled the unapproved use of public space constituted an illegal contribution.
The party is expected to repay the fair market value of the room’s use.
The PC Party says it is reviewing the report and will comply.
The NDP called for an apology and repayment.
