Lyten acquires Northvolt’s assets, restarting battery production in 2026 with focus on energy storage and defense.
Lyten has completed its acquisition of key assets from bankrupt Swedish battery maker Northvolt, including the Skellefteå factory, Västerås R&D lab, and a BESS facility in Poland.
The company plans to restart lithium-ion cell production by late 2026, initially focusing on energy storage, data centers, and defense, with automotive supply as a longer-term goal.
Lyten will rehire over 600 former Northvolt employees, establish an industrial hub in Skellefteå powered by hydropower, and expand with support from U.S. and European investors and EdgeConneX, which will develop a data center campus on acquired land.
