Vote counting is underway in Jharkhand for 48 urban local bodies, including nine municipal corporations, 20 councils, and 19 Nagar Panchayats, following a February 23 election with over 63% voter turnout.
The process, conducted manually using white ballots for ward councillors and pink ballots for mayors or chairpersons, began at 8 a.m. and is expected to conclude by late Friday, with Dhanbad’s results possibly extending into Saturday.
Over 43 lakh voters participated, including more than 21 lakh women, and 1,042 of 1,087 wards saw contests, with 41 seats filled unopposed, one ward’s poll canceled due to a candidate’s death, and three wards vacant.
No official party symbols were used, though candidates received unofficial party support.
Early results show winners in several wards across cities like Mango, Medininagar, and Pakur.
