Jeff Galloway, creator of the run-walk-run method and 1972 Olympic runner, died at 80 on Feb. 25, 2026, from a stroke.
Following a hemorrhagic stroke and emergency neurosurgery, Jeff Galloway, the 1972 U.S. Olympic runner and inventor of the run-walk-run technique that opened up running to millions of people, passed away in Pensacola, Florida, on February 25, 2026, at the age of 80.
After becoming the first person to win Atlanta's Peachtree Road Race in 1970, he went on to promote his training philosophy to help people of all skill levels finish marathons by lowering fatigue and injury.
Despite health setbacks, Galloway continued to be active as a coach, author, and RunDisney training consultant, inspiring generations with her books, retreats, and one-on-one mentoring.
He left behind a lasting legacy as a person who inspired innumerable runners to have confidence in themselves.
