Indian lawmakers protested coal block allocation to Adani, citing displaced tribes, false claims, and unfair compensation.
Congress lawmakers in Madhya Pradesh’s assembly staged a walkout over allegations of irregularities in the Singrauli coal block allocation to the Adani Group, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe. They accused the government of misrepresenting the number of affected tribal families, claiming over 3,000 were displaced—far more than the 1,200–1,500 cited—while also disputing land acquisition claims and noting soil removal had begun despite official statements that mining had not started. Lawmakers said many families received far less compensation than promised, with some getting only Rs 2–2.5 lakh instead of Rs 40–50 lakh, and accused the government of favoring Adani over tribal rights. The government has not responded publicly.
