He was issued a $389.50 summons under Appleton’s property damage ordinance and was cooperative during the investigation.
The suspect later wrote a letter expressing regret, citing a difficult day, and offered to volunteer as restitution.
The nonprofit said the man’s apology was accepted, and authorities urged those struggling with mental health to contact the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.
Attempts to repair the sculpture failed.
