Vancouver council rejects motion opposing U.S. ICE at 2026 World Cup; chair confirms ICE won’t deploy.
A Vancouver city council motion opposing the potential deployment of U.S. ICE agents during the 2026 World Cup was ruled out of order and not voted on, as council chair Mike Klassen stated ICE would not be deployed for the event.
The motion, introduced by councillors Pete Fry and Sean Orr, cited concerns over equity, safety, and migrants’ rights, and warned of possible protests.
Mayor Ken Sim supported the ruling, affirming ICE is not invited and not welcome in Vancouver for enforcement.
An attempt to override the decision failed by one vote.
