UAE-funded housing project near Rafah, part of Trump’s ceasefire plan, awaits Israeli approval.
A Gaza-based firm, Masoud & Ali Contracting Co., has been hired to build a UAE-funded housing complex near Rafah in southern Gaza, intended to house tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians in prefabricated units across 74 acres.
The project, part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire framework, aims to begin reconstruction in an area under Israeli military control without waiting for full Israeli withdrawal or Hamas disarmament.
Funded by the UAE, which has pledged nearly $3 billion in aid since October 2023, the initiative involves Egyptian firms and is coordinated with the U.S.-led Board of Peace and a Palestinian technocratic committee.
No construction has started due to pending Israeli approval, and the project remains unofficially announced.
