A tree-inspired 22-story office tower proposed near Vancouver’s Waterfront Station aims to preserve historic infrastructure while offering green space and public access.
A 22-storey office tower inspired by a maple tree has been proposed for a parking lot near Vancouver’s Waterfront Station, featuring stacked, off-center floors that create space for plants and a public plaza.
Designed by James KM Cheng Architects, the 126-meter building would use a concrete core to avoid disturbing the historic station’s foundation and the West Coast Express track below.
The design, which avoids underground parking and could save $50,000 per space, was submitted in November and discussed in a February community open house.
While praised for innovation, the tree-like form has drawn mixed reactions.
