Supreme Court mandates March 14 meeting to standardize police station CCTV systems amid cooperation failures.
The Supreme Court ordered the Union government and key stakeholders to attend a March 14, 2026, meeting to create a centralized dashboard and standardize CCTV systems in police stations, after the Centre, Delhi, and several states failed to attend a prior meeting.
The court accepted assurances of cooperation despite a communication gap cited by the Union.
The move follows ongoing efforts since 2018 to ensure functional CCTV coverage with audio, night vision, and one-year data storage in police stations to prevent abuses and boost transparency.
A further hearing is set for March 23.
