School resource officer Paul Millard, off duty, stopped an active shooter at Towne East Mall and was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
Paul Millard, a 27-year veteran and school resource officer with the Great Bend Police Department, has been named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Wichita Metro Crime Commission for his actions on August 8, when he intervened during an active threat at Towne East Mall.
Off duty and shopping with his wife, he heard gunshots, ran to the scene, and restrained a suspect until police arrived.
Millard, who has served USD 428 for a decade and leads the department’s D.A.R.E.
program, has also been recognized nationally as SRO of the Month.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall praised his bravery and dedication to public safety.
