Punjab has launched its first e-taxi scheme, introducing 1,100 electric taxis in Lahore with plans to expand across the province. The program, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, offers subsidies covering up to 60% of the down payment for women and 50% for men, with vehicles to be registered with ride-hailing platforms and equipped with panic buttons linked to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. Thirty percent of the taxis are reserved for women, promoting gender inclusion, while public fast chargers and digital payments support the rollout. The initiative is part of a broader push for sustainable, safe, and inclusive urban mobility across Punjab.
