The Philippines launched the National Artificial Intelligence Center for Research and Innovation (NAICRI) on February 26, 2026, to unify fragmented AI efforts and boost adoption among small businesses and schools.
Led by DOST, NAICRI will provide AI tools, training, and technical support, especially in rural areas, and aims to train 10,000 MSMEs in advanced technologies over three years.
The Department of Education (DepEd) also introduced responsible AI guidelines, allowing AI use in classrooms under strict ethical rules, prohibiting high-risk applications like emotion recognition and social scoring, and requiring transparency in student AI use.
The initiative includes projects like real-time school resource mapping and automated exams, with a focus on safeguarding learners and enhancing education efficiency.
