Nic Smith to become University of Auckland’s next vice-chancellor, starting August 2026.
Professor Nic Smith is leaving his role as Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington to become Vice-Chancellor of the University of Auckland, starting 3 August 2026.
He succeeds Professor Dawn Freshwater and brings leadership experience from institutions including Oxford, King’s College London, and Queensland University of Technology.
A University of Auckland alumnus with a doctorate in Engineering, Smith previously served as Dean of Engineering there.
