NBC orders pilot for Jake Johnson-led comedy about a jaded ex-cop turned private detective.
NBC has ordered a pilot for a new half-hour workplace comedy starring Jake Johnson as Mickey, a cynical, heartbroken former LAPD officer turned private detective.
Created by Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, the series draws on the Philip Marlowe tradition of hardboiled noir but adds a modern, self-aware comedic twist.
Johnson, known for New Girl, returns to network TV in his first regular role since the show.
The single-camera comedy is part of NBC’s renewed focus on star-driven pilots for the 2026–27 season and is set to be directed by Akiva Schaffer.
It will be produced by Universal Television and may debut at SXSW.
