A Melbourne man was ruled to have incited antisemitism by chanting "All Zionists are terrorists" at a protest, marking Australia’s first legal link between anti-Zionist speech and antisemitism.
The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal ruled that Hash Tayeh incited hatred against Jews by leading the chant “All Zionists are terrorists” at a Melbourne protest in March 2025, marking Australia’s first legal finding linking anti-Zionist rhetoric directly to antisemitism.
Judge My Anh Tran determined the statement violated Victoria’s Racial and Religious Tolerance Act, rejecting Tayeh’s claim that he criticized only political ideology.
The tribunal also found Nasser Mashni used antisemitic tropes and dehumanizing language at the event.
The case, brought by Jewish lawyer Menachem Vorchheimer, coincides with the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion following the Bondi massacre.
Tayeh plans to appeal.
The case returns for further hearing on March 25.
