Kentucky passed Logan’s Law, requiring 30-year minimums for life sentences and stricter supervision for violent offenders, after a man acquitted by reason of insanity was arrested days after release.
Kentucky’s House of Representatives passed Logan’s Law, named for 6-year-old Logan Tipton killed in a 2015 home invasion, by a 93-1 vote.
The bill, now moving to the Senate, would require life sentences to include at least 30 years before parole eligibility, mandate consecutive sentences for multiple victims, and reform reentry supervision.
It responds to the case of Ronald Exantus, found not guilty by reason of insanity in the attack, released early under supervision, and arrested days later for violating release terms.
The law aims to strengthen sentencing and limit early release for violent offenders.
