Kenosha schools will install metal detectors and boost security after gun incidents, including a fatal shooting.
The Kenosha Unified School District board unanimously approved installing walk-through metal detectors at all six high schools and expanding security protocols, including allowing staff to use handheld wands when suspicious, following recent gun-related incidents and threats.
The $473,000 initiative, funded through reserves, comes after a student was arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school and another for carrying ammunition, along with a fatal shooting earlier in the month.
The district is also exploring controlled entrances and will review broader implementation.
