A 58-year-old Park Rapids man, John Tobias, was arrested and charged with two felony counts of making terroristic threats after allegedly threatening Minnesota State Senator Glenn Gruenhagen and vowing to harm people at the state Capitol.
Authorities said he posted a threatening message on Facebook demanding compensation for pandemic-related losses and made a recorded call to the Attorney General’s Office stating he would carry out an attack if his demands were not met.
A search of his property uncovered nine firearms and over 40 boxes of ammunition.
Tobias admitted to the threats but claimed he intended only to draw attention to his grievances.
Bail was set at $150,000 with conditions.
