A federal judge ruled Trump’s policy of deporting migrants to unaffiliated countries is unlawful due to lack of due process.
The Trump administration's practice of sending migrants to third countries with which they have no connection has been declared illegal by a federal judge in Massachusetts. The judge found that the policy violates due process by denying people notice and an opportunity to contest their removal. President Biden-appointed Judge Brian E. Murphy suspended the decision for 15 days so the government could file an appeal, pointing out that the policy violates constitutional rights, especially when it targets people who are granted protection from returning to their home countries. The ruling comes after deportations to countries such as South Sudan and El Salvador, where the government concealed the destination information to avoid a court review. Since the high court previously upheld the policy's legality in a 5-4 ruling, the case might go back to the Supreme Court.
