A Dublin man got 3.5 years for holding drugs worth €396,441, acting out of desperation to clear his son’s debt.
A Dublin man was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for possessing drugs worth €396,441, including cocaine, heroin, cannabis, MDMA, and alprazolam, following searches on September 18, 2024, in a van he was driving and a Glasnevin house.
The court heard he was on bail for a prior drug offense when he committed this one, prompting Judge Orla Crowe to order the sentence to run consecutively.
He admitted to acquiring the drugs to pay off his son’s debt, claiming he acted out of desperation and love, and was not paid but saw the debt reduced.
With 42 prior convictions, mostly for drug and public order offenses before 2009, and a history of heroin addiction, he had been clean since treatment in 2009.
The defense cited pressure from drug gangs and submitted support letters.
His earliest possible release is March 2028.
