Chinese courts have sentenced 16 people to death and 39 to life or harsher penalties in connection with two major criminal gangs from northern Myanmar involved in telecom and online fraud, according to the Supreme People's Court.
The cases, part of a broader crackdown, targeted the Ming and Bai gangs—key members of the so-called "four major families"—and mark the full dismantling of these cross-border criminal networks.
By the end of 2025, over 27,000 related first-instance cases had been processed, with more than 41,000 suspects returned and sentenced.
Nationwide, from 2021 to 2025, courts handled over 159,000 fraud cases and sentenced more than 338,000 defendants, with growth in convictions slowing in 2025, signaling the effectiveness of judicial enforcement in curbing such crimes.
