BBC reporter Sian Williams fainted live on air in 2004 during a London fountain event, later revealing her anxiety and writing about self-compassion.
BBC presenter Sian Williams has revealed she fainted during a live 2004 broadcast of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain opening in London, an event attended by King Charles and Prince William. She collapsed in a hot marquee after standing for hours, losing consciousness just before switching to another presenter. After regaining awareness and eating three custard creams, she returned to air. Williams, who later became a psychologist, has since spoken about her lifelong anxiety, describing herself as an "orchid" — highly sensitive to stress — and authored a book promoting self-compassion in managing anxiety. The fountain, opened in 2001 by Queen Elizabeth II, remains in Hyde Park.
