Each state and territory must submit artifacts by March 15, with final items arriving by May.
The capsule, made of stainless steel with a bell jar seal, is built to resist water, oxygen, and temperature shifts.
A replica will debut at the White House Visitor Center on April 1, with another at the Liberty Bell Center, where visitors can leave messages for future generations.
