Alberta boosts education funding by 7% to $10.8B in 2026, hiring 2,400 staff and expanding special needs support, but teachers say it falls short.
Alberta has allocated $10.8 billion to education for 2026, a 7% increase, to address rising enrolment, hire 1,600 teachers and 800 support staff, and expand resources for students with special needs.
The province projects education spending will reach $11.5 billion by 2028–29, with over 5,000 new staff hired.
Despite the funding boost, the Alberta Teachers’ Association says the government’s efforts fall short, citing longstanding issues with class size and composition, delayed data collection, and insufficient support measures.
