Wiremu Curtis, convicted in 2008 of killing 3-year-old Nia Glassie after abuse, denied parole due to prison misconduct and ongoing denial of guilt.
Wiremu Curtis, one of two brothers convicted in the 2008 murder of 3-year-old Nia Glassie after months of abuse, has been denied parole by the New Zealand Parole Board, who cited ongoing concerns about his behavior, including drug use and violence in prison.
The decision, made without a live hearing as Curtis waived his right to appear, means he will remain incarcerated at least until February 2027.
He maintains his innocence, claiming his brother Michael delivered the fatal kick.
Nia suffered severe abuse, including being placed in a hot dryer and thrown against walls, leading to a fatal head injury.
His brother Michael also had parole denied and is due for review in July.
A full written rationale will be released later.
