A Virginia woman died in a crash when her car hit a horse and tree; a separate fire injured one and displaced six.
A 74-year-old Hillsville woman, Sylvia J. Cropp, died in a two-vehicle crash on Madison Road in Carroll County, Virginia, on Monday evening, Feb. 23, 2026, after her Subaru Forrester collided with a westbound Ford Super Duty.
The Subaru veered off the road, struck a fence, a horse, another fence, and a tree before stopping.
Cropp, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
The Ford driver was unharmed.
Authorities are investigating the cause.
Meanwhile, a separate house fire in Roanoke early Tuesday morning injured one person and displaced six others; investigators said it was caused by an electrical issue.
