Deputy Carsten Jahr and Officer Walker Stoner were awarded life-saving honors for rescuing a woman from a burning Toyota SUV in Holmen on February 13, 2026. The vehicle crashed into a tree, trapping the unconscious driver with deployed airbags and spreading flames. Jahr broke the window, cut the seatbelt, and helped Stoner pull the woman to safety despite the fire. The woman suffered compound ankle fractures and required a tourniquet. Their swift actions saved her life. The awards were presented on February 24 at the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office.
