A strike by about 80 school bus drivers at Alouette Bus Lines in Northern Ontario continues into its third day, disrupting transportation for nearly 2,000 students in North Bay, Parry Sound, and surrounding areas.
Drivers, represented by United Steelworkers Local 2020, are demanding a $21.10 hourly "living wage," rejecting a $20 offer and citing current pay of $18.11 as unsustainable, especially compared to regional averages of $23 to $25.
The dispute stems from a lack of a new contract since August 2025.
Parents are organizing carpools and adjusting work schedules, while the union says 83% opposed the company’s offer.
Alouette claims its offer would place drivers among the highest-paid in the region, and both sides continue negotiations.
