A new 17-meter-long wooden galleon, built from naturally rot-resistant mountain larch in Bavaria, has been installed in Kensington Gardens as part of a £3 million renovation of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground.
Transported from Germany and lifted into place by crane, the galleon features a tunnel slide, two crow’s nests, and a ramped entrance for accessibility.
The playground, closed since autumn 2025, will reopen in summer 2026 with updated play areas, including a treehouse, redesigned water play zone, and under-threes area.
