Karnataka offers free Emicizumab treatment to haemophilia patients, covering costs and providing ambulances.
Karnataka has launched the 'Kusuma Sanjeevini' program, providing free access to Emicizumab treatment for haemophilia patients, becoming one of the first large Indian states to do so.
The initiative, funded with Rs 45.55 crore, covers annual treatment costs of about Rs 5 lakh per patient and includes free 108 ambulance services.
It aims to support around 2,600 identified patients, primarily males, by offering a monthly subcutaneous injection that reduces bleeding episodes and improves quality of life.
The treatment, tested on 200 patients with zero bleeds reported, replaces painful weekly intravenous infusions and enables children to attend school and participate in daily activities.
Officials call it a major step in public healthcare and social inclusion.
