Joseph Richards sentenced to 7.5 years for premeditated murder of vulnerable man in 2018 Ballymun attack.
Joseph Richards, 35, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for conspiracy to murder Robert Sheridan, a vulnerable man fatally shot at his Ballymun home in 2018.
Richards, who pleaded guilty after a delayed trial due to a key witness’s health, was the shooter in a premeditated attack involving a getaway car, arson, and the use of a trusted acquaintance to lure Sheridan to his door.
The victim, recovering from a prior brain injury and studying addiction counseling, posed no threat.
The judge cited the crime’s brutality, Richards’ 99 prior convictions, and the lasting trauma on the family, while acknowledging his guilty plea and efforts to address drug addiction.
The sentence, to begin after Richards completes his current six-year, five-month term, results in an effective sentence of over 12 years.
