Indonesian police arrested Rifaldo Aquino Pontoh at Bali’s international airport on February 21, 2025, on an Interpol Red Notice linked to his alleged role in a Cambodia-based human trafficking and online scam network.
Authorities say he recruited Indonesians via fake job ads, forcing them into exploitative operations with confiscated passports and unpaid wages.
The arrest followed intelligence from the Philippines’ Interpol office, and Pontoh is one of several suspects under investigation for trafficking, scamming, and money laundering.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has repatriated hundreds of nationals from Cambodia, with 462 returned between February 16 and 22, and 692 since January 30.
Returnees are screened upon arrival to assess their involvement in scam networks.
