India enacts strict new aviation safety rules after two crashes, mandating transparency, pilot authority, and enhanced oversight.
India’s aviation regulator, the DGCA, has introduced stricter safety rules for non-scheduled operators following two fatal crashes within a month, including a Jharkhand air ambulance accident that killed seven.
The new measures, part of a zero-tolerance safety policy, require public disclosure of aircraft age, maintenance history, and pilot experience, and establish a safety ranking system for operators.
Pilots now have final authority to cancel, delay, or divert flights for safety, with no commercial penalties.
Enhanced audits, stricter penalties—including up to five-year pilot license suspensions—and accountability for senior management aim to improve compliance.
The first phase of safety audits ends in early March 2026.
