India approves ₹1,677 crore expansion of Srinagar Airport to handle 10 million passengers annually.
The Indian government has approved a ₹1,677 crore expansion of the Srinagar International Airport’s civil enclave, enhancing infrastructure at the Budgam Airbase.
The project, cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on February 24, 2026, will add a 71,500 square meter terminal—partly built on existing structures—capable of handling 10 million passengers annually and 2,900 during peak hours.
It includes 15 aircraft parking bays, including space for wide-body planes, a multi-level car park for 1,000 vehicles, and barracks for security personnel.
Designed with Kashmiri cultural elements and sustainability features like natural lighting and water harvesting, the terminal aims to boost tourism, economic growth, and regional connectivity.
The runway remains under Indian Air Force control.
