On February 24, 2026, a ceremony in Shabran marked the completion of two large hand-woven carpets for the Shusha Mosque’s second-floor women’s prayer area.
Each measuring 12 by 19 meters, the carpets were crafted over a year by nearly 50 female artisans using traditional Azerbaijani techniques and custom motifs, involving about 50 million knots.
Special looms developed by international experts aided production.
The event, attended by Leyla Aliyeva, followed a prior ceremony for a massive circular carpet on the mosque’s first floor.
The projects highlight Azerbaijan’s commitment to preserving its carpet-making heritage and cultural identity.
