flag Dublin GAA approved for new training complex in Templeogue despite opposition, featuring floodlit pitches, community access, and environmental safeguards.

Dublin GAA has received approval from An Coimisiún Pleanála for a new state-of-the-art training facility in Templeogue, south Dublin, despite local opposition. The project, on a 13.8-hectare site near the M50, will replace a golf driving range and partially reduce soccer pitches to build three floodlit GAA pitches, an indoor facility, a 500-seat stand, terraces, and a pavilion with changing rooms, gym, medical services, and dining areas. Additional features include a hurling wall, sprint track, and walking trail. Funded partly by a €7 million government grant, the development must follow conditions including phased construction, limited floodlight use until 10 pm from October to March, traffic management, and protections for bat and badger habitats. Revised plans in 2024 addressed earlier concerns, and the county board emphasized the facility’s role as a community resource, not a center of excellence, with 155 parking spaces and public access to recreational trails.
