Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance adds second AW169 helicopter, boosting emergency care with advanced medical tech and improved performance.
The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance has received its second AW169 helicopter, undergoing medical fit-out at Gloucestershire Airport to become a flying intensive care unit.
Equipped with advanced life-support tools like monitors, defibrillators, ultrasound, and pediatric supplies, it will match the capabilities of its sister aircraft, Peggy.
Enhanced performance includes greater engine power, improved heat resilience, increased fuel capacity, and higher payload limits, enabling safer operations in high temperatures.
With two helicopters, the service can now maintain operations during maintenance, reducing downtime and improving emergency response.
Funded by a £1 million public campaign, the new aircraft is set to become operational by summer 2026, strengthening critical care delivery across the region.
