The Braves extended Chris Sale through 2028, making him their highest-paid player.
Chris Sale, a veteran left-hander, has agreed to a contract extension with the Atlanta Braves, which will keep him with the team through 2028. A $30 million club option for 2028 and a $27 million salary for 2027 are included in the agreement. Despite missing 10 weeks due to a rib injury, Sale, who turned 37 in March, had a 7-5 record and a 2.58 ERA in 2025 while striking out 165 batters. He led the National League in 2024 with 18 victories, a 2.38 ERA, and 225 strikeouts in his first season with Atlanta. Sale has a 145-88 record, a 3.01 ERA, and 2,579 strikeouts in 2,084 innings over the course of his 13-year career. He is now the highest-paid player in Braves history for a single season thanks to the extension.
