Arla Foods is investing €300 million to double Sweden’s cheese production capacity by 2030, boosting domestic self-sufficiency and strengthening local supply chains.
Arla Foods is investing €300 million in expanding its Götene cheese factory in Sweden, set to open in 2030, doubling its milk processing capacity to 1 million metric tons annually.
The project, the largest single investment in Swedish food production, aims to boost Sweden’s cheese self-sufficiency from 37% to 47% by shifting production from Denmark, where hushallsost and other cheeses were previously made.
The expansion supports Sweden’s food security goals, strengthens local dairy supply chains, and creates new jobs, while freeing capacity at Arla’s Danish facility for export markets.
