Ukrainian eye surgeon Pavla Ivaniuta completes fellowship at University of Calgary to train in treating war-related eye injuries and return to Ukraine to teach others.
Dr. Pavla Ivaniuta, a 26-year-old Ukrainian eye surgeon from Kyiv, is completing a six-month humanitarian fellowship at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine, becoming the first Ukrainian doctor in the program.
She is training under Dr. Karim Punja to improve her skills in treating severe eye and eyelid injuries from the ongoing war, focusing on both surgical techniques and patient emotional support.
The fellowship requires her to return to Ukraine to teach other medical professionals and share her knowledge, addressing a shortage of doctors willing to train others.
Punja plans to visit Ukraine for hands-on instruction before continuing remote support.
La cirujana ocular ucraniana Pavla Ivaniuta completa una beca en la Universidad de Calgary para entrenarse en el tratamiento de lesiones oculares relacionadas con la guerra y regresar a Ucrania para enseñar a otros.
