Three hikers were reported lost in Cumbria, but all safely returned unharmed before rescue arrived.
Three hikers were reported lost in the Spouthead Gill and Styhead area near Wasdale on February 22, 2026, triggering a mountain rescue operation after emergency calls, including Apple’s Emergency SOS alerts, were made to Cumbria Police.
The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team responded at 6:49 p.m., facing poor mobile signal, drizzle, and sub-zero wind chill.
Initially thought to be one missing person, it was later confirmed three hikers were unaccounted for, one with an ankle injury.
A 20-person search team began operations, but before rescue was needed, police confirmed all three had safely reached safety on their own.
The incident ended at 11:15 p.m. with no injuries.
