Texas deploys troops to border amid cartel violence after El Mencho's killing.
In reaction to an increase in cartel violence in Mexico after CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as "El Mencho," was killed, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has increased the number of state troopers, tactical units, and surveillance assets along the southern border.
In an effort to improve threat detection, improve surveillance, and combat transnational criminal activity, the Texas Department of Public Safety is growing its operations across several units.
Abbott urged Texans visiting Mexico to heed U.S. government advice and exercise caution, underscoring the threat Mexican drug cartels pose to national security and public safety.
The Mexican government stated that although there were obstacles and criminal activity, they were being removed, and flights were anticipated to start up again by Tuesday.
