Teddy Riley cancels R. Kelly music project, apologizes to survivors, and acknowledges harm caused by past comments.
Teddy Riley has canceled a planned project to release new music from imprisoned R. Kelly and apologized to survivors of abuse.
In a February 19 Instagram statement, Riley said the project will not move forward, acknowledging that his previous comments—defending Kelly as deserving a second chance and calling him the "King of R&B"—may have caused harm.
He emphasized that his passion for music should not overshadow the real trauma experienced by survivors and expressed regret for any pain caused.
Riley, a key figure in R&B, also clarified that his intent was never to minimize abuse.
His memoir, "Remember The Times: A Memoir," was recently released and discussed in a Netflix interview.
