Taara, a startup from Alphabet’s X lab, launched the Taara Beam in 2026, a 17-pound device using near-infrared light to deliver up to 25Gbps internet over distances up to 10 kilometers. Designed for rapid rooftop or pole deployment without trenching or permits, it offers ultra-low latency under 100 microseconds, outperforming satellite options. Targeted at telecoms and enterprises, it supports middle-mile infrastructure and emerging uses like EV data offloading and low-latency V2X networks. Already deployed in over 20 countries with partners including T-Mobile and Airtel, the device will be showcased at MWC Barcelona, though pricing details remain unannounced.
